The high-octane vocals and fretboard ferocity one can reasonably expect from a Mike Zito release are indeed present and accounted for on his latest. Aside from the fierce delivery on the Fred James-penned slow blues which serves as the title track, it’s ballads that garner most attention here. Mr. Z’s own “Forever My Love”, Tab Benoit’s “Darkness” and a stylish and quite unexpected recasting of the Guess Who’s “These Eyes” are standouts. Guitaist/producers Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith are active on both sides of the studio glass.
