JoAnn Mar KALW Radio
JOANN MAR has hosted and produced "Folk Music &
Beyond" on public
radio station KALW in San Francisco for over sixteen years. As
the name implies, the program is not one for purist tendencies.
Although the music at its core springs
from the folk/acoustic
genre, it often crosses over into other genres such as blues,
jazz, rock, classical, world/international, and occasionally even
hip hop. The primary focus of the program is music from America,
the British Isles, and the Celtic lands. "Folk Music & Beyond"
has featured in-depth interviews with well-known musicians, most
recently with Martin Carthy, Keb' Mo', John Renbourn, Seamus Egan
with Solas, Mickey Hart, Mick Moloney, and Gabriel Yacoub. The
program often features live in-studio performances with artists
too numerous to mention here. KALW is streamed over the Internet,

"Folk Music & Beyond" was honored in
1998 with a silver reel award by the National Federation of
Community Broadcasters for a program featuring Bernice Johnson
Reagon with Sweet Honey in the Rock.
