Ron Burd, Music Director of CIUT-FM Toronto has been actively pouring over music
every working day for years now. Having been with CIUT since early 1997, he's
overseen the reviewing of 15,000+ releases (of all genres) submitted to the
station for airplay.
"I've continued to push for Roots Music's profile here at our station by
reaching out to as many artists as possible. Trying to get the word out that CIUT
has numerous shows (either genre specific or open format) that regularly play
Roots artists is my biggest challenge. It's simply a situation that if we don't
have the music we can't play it. And I take my role as Music Director very
seriously in giving the artists/bands exposure beyond airplay. Weekly charts are
sent out to thousands of subscribers (just request by emailing r_burd@ciut.fm
with "subscribe") with a complete set of our charts. These charts include web
links to each artist/band website. We want to give them as much exposure as
possible, and this is just another way of helping artists reach more people.
We're a station with a huge listenership, not only locally but across Canada via
satellite and the internet. We have a fine cross section of programming, I always
make sure Roots music is represented as best I can. That's why the word needs to
get out there that not only "Roots" shows play "Roots" music!
