Michigan-based Full Cord Bluegrass’ third studio album “Choreomania” is a six-song EP that was recorded live in 2019. The band formed over a decade ago when guitarist Eric Langejans met upright bassist Todd Kirchner at the Charlotte Bluegrass Festival, and they decided to form this ensemble that’s rather unique as compared to most standard, contemporary bluegrass outfits. The band now also includes Brian Oberlin (mandolin) and Grant Flick (fiddle). Oberlin is known worldwide as a master mandolinist, and he’s also a very prolific songwriter with three engaging originals on this album (Boneyard Vamp, Cajun Mandolin, Leadfoot). He also sings with considerable emotional electricity. Flick penned the driving “Road to Tavistock,” an instrumental with plenty of snappy, old-time spirit. While Flick and Oberlin thrill listeners with their fluid melodic conversations, Langejans’ delivers poignant lyrics in “Gainesville Rain” and “Wallflower” with a relaxed, convincing feeling. An eclectic band that’s a well-wrought addition to the bluegrass-based new acoustic genre, Full Cord Bluegrass would be a real pleasure to see live at a festival, concert hall, or brewpub. For some gigs, I understand that they also add banjo player Matthew Davis or Luke Gitchel to the band.  Full Cord Bluegrass has the vision, potential, repertoire and chops to build a legion of fans and appeal to a wide demographic that simply likes fun, tastefully rendered acoustic music.
