Jen Maurer (vocals, string bass) and Paul Kovac (vocals, guitar and banjo) know their way around roots styles well enough to make it as traditionalists.  This Ohio couple, however, raises the ante with individual and collective songwriting skills that keep this set consistently varied and very airplay-friendly.  Ms. Maurer in particular has a nice, understated handle on ballads. Their Western swing-flavored “I Did I Do I Will” is an exceptional duet treat. Other standouts include “Blue Modal #2”, “Isn’t It Funny” and “Bright Light”.
