We’re happy to announce that English Oceans, the 12th full length release from Drive-By Truckers, is now available everywhere! The album was recorded over 13 days at Chase Park Transduction Studios in Athens, GA with their longtime producer, David Barbe. Cooley fans will be happy that he brought six new songs to the sessions and this record marks the first time that Cooley sings a song penned by Patterson Hood on “Til He’s Dead or Rises.” The album was recorded with a compact, retooled lineup. Jay Gonzalez, who joined the band in 2008 as keyboardist, has added guitar to his duties, while bassist Matt Patton was drafted from the Tuscaloosa group The Dexateens. “It’s a very tasteful group, and when it needs to be it can be a very big, powerful, over-the-top band, too, and it can go from one to the other seamlessly,” says Hood.

Though the album just came out, the positive reviews have already begun rolling in. “Alabama’s finest return, recharged, and with a brilliant, balanced blast of rock’n’roll” claims Uncut Magazine, who gave the album a 9/10. Paste called English Oceans “a triumph for the Drive-By Truckers, one that capitalizes on Hood and Cooley’s strengths as songwriters and also gives them something to sing for that means more than all those colorful characters put together.” “It’s my favorite thing that we’ve ever done,” said Hood in a recent press release. “I’m proud of our catalog – we always try to make as good a record as we can make. Sometimes things just work. This time, we made kind of a magical record.”

In case you missed it, here’s a recap of some of ATO’s recent releases:

Primus front man Les Claypool debuted his new project, Les Claypool’s Duo De Twang. Their debut album Four Foot Shack was released on February 4th. As evidenced by Duo De Twang's live shows and debut, Les and Bryan mostly mix traditional tunes, popular covers, and readings of Primus classics (all of which are usually barely recognizable when compared to the original versions). Case in point, the inclusion of "Battle of New Orleans," "Stayin' Alive," "Man in the Box," "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver," and "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver" on DDT's debut disc. Check it out for yourself, you can find Four Foot Shack on

Hurray for the Riff Raff released their ATO debut Small Town Heroes on February 11th. The album debuted at #3 on Billboard’s Heatseaker chart, and has been receiving high praise from all corners of the press. NPR Music had this to say: "Every so often a new voice engages basic questions in subtle, exciting new ways. Alynda Lee Segarra, the 27-year-old guiding light of the New Orleans-based band Hurray For The Riff Raff, is this year's champion." “It’s grown into this bigger idea of feeling like we really associate with the underdog,” says Segarra, who came to international attention in 2012 with ‘Look Out Mama.’ The album earned her raves from NPR and the New York Times to Mojo and Paste, along with a breakout performance at the 2013 Newport Folk Festival, which left American Songwriter “awestruck” and solidified her place at the forefront of a new generation of young musicians celebrating and reimagining American roots music. While he might be best known as bassist for Phish, Mike Gordon found the time to put out a stellar album as well. The album, titled Overstep, was released on February 25th. Gordon penned Overstep’s 11 songs with guitarist and longtime collaborator Scott Murawski during a series of writing retreats in New England. For the first time in his solo career, Mike brought in an outside producer – Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Pixies, Morphine) – to help realize his vision for the songs. Legendary drummer Matt Chamberlain (Jon Brion, Fiona Apple) was among the guests joining them in the studio. Associated Press called Overstep Gordon’s “most accessible solo record yet” and RollingStone.com, which premiered the album in the week leading up to its release, praised first single “Yarmouth Road” as an “endearing, reggae-steeped groove about an emotional rift.” You can purchase Overstep on CD, vinyl, or digitally here: iTunes/Amazon/Official Store
