A mood-setter of considerable skill, Alice DiMicele energizes her earthy folk vocals with jazz-like instincts for phrasing and inflection.  Which, in turn, lends refreshing variation to the equally diverse nature of her lyric sets.  The instrumentation is no less affected; acoustic guitar is at the center of flavorful arrangements, enhanced at various points by Hammond B3, cello and tasty horns.  The leadoff track “Soul Fly Free” stands out, as do “Old Life Back” and “Schoolhouse”.
