West Virginia may conjure musical notions more bluegrass than blues, and some might not expect blues to be delivered convincingly by an established glam-rocker, but Gyasi (pronounced “Jhasi”) Heus’s current offering should provide evidence for further consideration.  The WV-bred, Nashville based singer/guitarist’s sure-fingered fretwork and nonchalant vocal delivery suggest a for-real grounding in deep blues turf.  The song list draws from Robert Johnson- “Preachin’”, “Kind Hearted Woman”, Sleepy John Estes- “Drop Down Mama”, Lightnin’ Hopkins- “Hello Central” and other masters.  Good stuff.
