Today’s contemporary acoustic string band often has one foot in Americana and another in multi-genre roots music that defies categorization. This approach allows Front Country to tour widely and play venues and festivals that cater to eclectic sounds. Lead singer Melody Walker wrote most of the songs on this CD, and Adam Roszkiewicz contributed a couple of new acoustic instrumentals. One would not recognize their funky and bluesy interpretation of “Storms are on the Ocean” as derived from the Carter Family’s waltz-time standard recorded originally in 1927.  The band now embraces “roots pop” for a description of its sound, and songs like “O Heartbreaker” and “Good Looking Young People” emphasize originality and charisma “to the new generation.” They also provide some political commentary by covering David Olney’s “Millionaire.” Front Range is a band of proficient artists who are still exploring, evaluating, creating and growing. Their closer, “Keep Travelin’” ironically captures, in both literal and figurative manner, their approach to life and music. “Facing the thing I wanted yesterday, And it ain’t the same thing that I want today.” We’ll see where their muse leads them tomorrow.  (Joe Ross, Roots Music Report)
