CRB is the Chris Robinson Brotherhood who describe themselves as a “psychedelic rock band from California.”  They are Robinson on vocal, guitar and harmonica; Neal Casal playing guitar, banjo, tenor guitar and charango; Adam MacDougall on keyboards and melodica; Tony Leone playing drums, percussion, marimba and mandolin; and Jeff Hill on electric bass, upright bass and cello. All of them sing. Lyrically, the songs are almost Dylanesque in their imagery, with lyrics like “The man that’s laughing drove the nail/He whipped his horse and built the jail/Wants no forgiveness/A collection of dark and loveless things/Along with rain he will bring sorrow” (“Hark, the Herald Hermit Speaks”). This is the tenth album for the band and lives up to its promise. Psychedelic for the new era. Impressive.
