Recorded live at Rancho Nicasio, a roadhouse in Vallejo, California, this quartet of gospel powerhouses are following in the footsteps of the great Blind Boys of Alabama inasmuch as they are taking gospel to the masses via a popular music avenue. The brothers, James, Dwayne and Walter Morgan, Jr. are descendants of the original Soul Revivers, who hit their stride in the 1960s. The sons formed their group in 1970 and, now in their 40s, have been singing together all of their lives. With DaQyantae Johnson, their bassist and fourth vocalist and drummer Oliver Calloway, the Sons of the Soul Revivers are joined by producer Jim Pugh on organ and guitarist Thomas Smith for a joyful and powerful program of traditional and original gospel quartet music. Not to be confused with a gospel choir, these four vocalist are ready to play the bigger venues simply based on that palpable energy they bring. These are handclapping songs that will grab the listener. Great disc.
