Like a bucketful of cold water pitched in one’s face, Gaye Adegbalola’s lyrical assaults on a number of societal and cultural wrongs hit the listener unapologetically dead-center.  This alumna of the renowned feminist blues posse Saffire keeps her hit list current as well as evidenced on tracks such as “(You’re) Flint Water” and “Kapernicked”.  As the set moves on, though, Ms. A takes on more intimate sounding fare, displaying her formidable roots savvy and soul on tracks including “Need a Little Sugar In My Bowl” and “Tea Cake Kind of Love”.
