The Andy Rau Band has been together for over three decades, and "Simple Man" is their latest album of original material. Rau’s primary instrument is the banjo, and he has followed his own muse into original folk rock and Americana territory. Rau’s band creates cohesive contemporary music with folk, rock and pop influences. The 5-string is understated but lays nicely into the overall mix.  Rau’s heartfelt lyrical messages take the forefront. Andy likes to address the themes of nostalgia, dreams, memories, life, optimism and satisfaction. There are times when Andy's songwriting reminds me of Richard Shindell or Scott Miller. The Andy Rau Band is Andy Rau (banjo, guitar, lead vocals), Les Johnson (guitar, vocals), Evan Anderson (mandolin, vocals), and George Boravich (bass, vocals).  They’ve worked together for many years. Guests include Chad Edwards (piano, organ) and Katie Oberthaler (harmony vocals). The band has its own unpretentious identity and signature sound, but there’s a similarity to a few of the generous 18 tracks on “Simple Man.” That may be why a couple of my favorite songs are “For You” and “Completely Satisfied” that incorporate a little more mandolin, harmony vocals and banjo, respectively.  (Joe Ross, Roots Music Report)
