The spirit of 21st century country rock is alive and well on Fabulous Day, the 2020 CD by Canadian born, Texas based singer-songwriter Patsy Thompson. Kicking off with the upbeat groove of the album opening title track, Fabulous Day goes on to include just about every style of modern pop music under the sun. The album veers between honky-tonk country pop, complete with steel guitar magic, through to a more pop-focused fare, but it’s all done with precision and care with the ears of the listeners in mind. Patsy’s band is first rate while the songs, seemingly built for her voice, are solid as a rock. Credit must also be given to album producer Chris Rolin (guitars) and the crack crew of fine players assembled here nails each track to Patsy’s sound pallet. As mentioned, Chris Rolin’s guitar playing is tops and also the guitar work of guitar hero Red Volkert adds further fuel to the sonic fires on hand. Hard to believe this new one is her sixth album but Fabulous Day is a fine introduction to Patsy’s music and it’s a real keeper.
