Whether singing or writing, this daughter of one legend and sister of another seems quite at home in most any blues or r&b setting.  Whether ballad or burner, Ms. Thomas’ work here consistently comes off both soulful and smart, up front of a sharply-charted rhythm-and-horns studio crew.  Airplay should be no problem for searing fare such as “Corner of Heartache and Pain”, or her punchy duet throwdown with sister Carla, “Wrong Turn”.  Ditto for “Southern Girl” and a touching track with late father Rufus, “Can’t Ever Let You Go”.
