Michael Schatte’s sharp-minded turns of phrase come at one as rapid-fire as his white-hot fretwork.  Wrapped in equally smart pop melodies and arrangements, the Canadian singer/songwriter/guitarist’s fare displays abundant ways to command one’s attention.  While not exclusively speaking to paramours past, present and potential, these missives provide some of the strongest moments on this formidable set.  The Costello-esque “Daria” is a standout as are “Genevieve” and “Dry Black Powder”.  Worth your time.
