About the Album

THE BONESHAKERS CELEBRATE 25 YEARS WITH THEIR HARD-HITTING SOULFUL BLUES ROOTS ON DISPLAY ON “ONE FOOT IN THE GROOVE”

Lead by celebrity guitarist Randy Jacobs of Was (Not Was), The Boneshakers are ushering in a new era welcoming vocalist Jenny Langer (of Moonshine Society) for a full length album of no-holds barred funk, blues, and rock that marries the sound and spirits of Detroit, Memphis, and Muscle Shoals— due September 30 from Take It To The Bridge Records.

The 10 tracks of funk-tinged blues are perfectly reminiscent of The Boneshakers’ first album Book of Spells, which gave us their hit “Cold Sweat” and was released 25 years ago. To get back to their original roots, One Foot In the Groove is produced by John Wooler, who signed the band to Pointblank / Virgin Records and also produced several of their earlier albums. (Wooler has also produced Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, Pops Staples, Robben Ford, and more.)

Jacobs and Langer are joined for 10 songs by an impressive roster of friends:

Jon Gilutin - keys (Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Bonnie Raitt)

Nathan Brown- bass (Coco Montoya)

Sergio Gonzales - drums (Keb Mo, Don Was)

The Texacali Horns: Joe Sublett - sax (Taj Mahal, Kenny Wayne Shepherd) and Mark Pender- trumpet (Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Bruce Springsteen)

Coco Montoya- Guitar

Bernard Fowler- vocals (The Rolling Stones)

Sir Harry Bowens- vocals

It was under surprising circumstances that The Boneshakers found their new vocalist. John Wooler was producing several tracks for Jenny Langer’s next album with her Washington, DC band Moonshine Society. She flew to Los Angeles and was met by The Boneshakers, assembled by Wooler as her studio players, with Randy Jacobs as the Music Director. The musical connection was instant, with band and vocalist all having a deep love of soul and roots music, and it was obvious that this deserved exploring as a whole album.

“Randy Jacobs is one of the funkiest and most original guitar players on Earth. His musical genius is on vivid display in this new album which, contrary to the title, finds him up to his knees with both feet deep in the groove. Jenny Langer’s powerful vocals provide the perfect counterpoint… this is the best Boneshakers record to date.” —Don Was
